From Leigh Denton, Lead Astronomer at Light-Year Astronomical Association:

The Light-Year Mobile Observatory is a pioneering project by the Light-Year Astronomical Association nonprofit dedicated to creating a fully functional mobile observatory. This innovative platform will travel to various designated locations across the United States, offering the public unparalleled access to astronomical wonders.

The observatory will be equipped with a comprehensive suite of instruments, including both traditional and digital telescopes, astrophotography equipment, and dedicated computers for on-site data analysis and planetary observation. This project holds immense significance as it fosters scientific exploration for individuals of all ages and experience levels.

We at Light-Year Mobile Observatory are enthusiastic about the transformative potential of this initiative. To learn more about this exciting endeavor, we encourage you to visit our website or follow us on social media.

Our Services

Plans & Functionality

The Light-Year Mobile Observatory will utilize a multi-vehicle platform during its initial launch phase. This allows for efficient deployment while we secure funding for a dedicated observatory trailer.

Our Team

Our team is composed of astronomer Rebekah Leigh Denton (Halley), historian and Chief Strategy Officer Dr. John William Denton III, and Chief Information Officer Ashley Flye.

Vehicle and Equipment

Our initial equipment transport utilizes personal SUVs and minivans. This temporary solution will be upgraded to a dedicated observatory trailer as funding allows.

How Much To Learn?

Light-Year Mobile Observatory offers free public astronomy sessions and educational programs, fostering a love for space exploration without financial barriers. We rely on donations to fuel our research and educational initiatives.

What Do We Stand For?

Light-Year Mobile Observatory dismantles barriers to STEM education. We provide free resources and outreach programs to empower individuals in underserved communities and areas impacted by light pollution.
